Yesterday my mom was lucky enough to get a seat at Malprops’ to hear Diana Gabaldon (author of the Outlander series.) Gabaldon has got a mad biography that includes a Masters in Marine Biology and a Ph.D in Quantitative Behavioral Ecology. She was a research professor, mother of three, and freelance writer…before she even set out to be a novelist.
Rather than hold a traditional reading, Gabaldon talked about her writing process. While I love hearing stories read aloud, hearing an author talk about the way a story is developed can be way inspiring. It’s nice to hear that she didn’t just sit down at her computer and bang out a best selling series. The road is long and meandering and can take us to unexpected places.
